Make more than one style of bunny rabbit doll with this cute and easy PDF sewing pattern. Experience sewing cloth dolls or making stuffed animal toys is not necessary. This sewing pattern is for complete beginners. It includes step-by-step photographs, detailed instructions and lots of tips from my years of doll making experience. I will also invite you to join a friendly and supportive Facebook group. Here you can watch video demonstrations, see bunny dolls made by other customers and ask questions.

A handmade bunny doll makes a special gift for Easter, a birthday or Christmas. It is also a cute nursery decoration for a new baby. 

With this sewing pattern, you can make a bunny doll with floppy or stand-up ears. You can choose to sew or paint the bunny’s face using templates for open or closed eyes. It includes clothes for your bunny - choose from shorts or a skirt and a bow, which can be used as a bow tie or place it next to the bunny’s ear

The bunny doll can wear the same clothes as the dolls in my mouse, bear, cat, dog, deer and fox sewing patterns. They can also wear the daisy dress,  Spring outfitpyjamas and fairy outfit

Materials and tools

To make this pattern you will need...

• Just over a third of a meter or yard of linen, cotton or a cotton-linen blend for the bunny's body
• 12” x 6” (30 x 14cm) of soft ultra lightweight fusible interfacing for the standing-up ears
• A fat quarter (meters or yards of lightweight cotton, quilting cotton or lightweight linen for the shorts or skirt
• 8” x 8 1/2” (21 x 22cm) piece of lightweight cotton fabric for the bow
• 1” x 1” (2.5 x 2.5cm) wool felt for the eyes (if making)
• Sewing machine thread to match the body and clothes
• Embroidery thread for the face (brown/black/grey and pink/peach)
• Approximately 6oz (170g) stuffing, depending on the type that you use
• 9” (22.9cm) of 1/4” (6mm) elastic for the shorts or skirt
• 25” (63.5cm) of 3/8” (10mm) wide ribbon for the bow tie strap (if making)
• Fabric and embroidery scissors
• Paper scissors
• Iron
• Pinking shears (optional)
• Haemostats/forceps (optional)
• Erasable fabric pen
• Embroidery needle
• Sewing pins
• Ruler or tape measure
• Seam ripper
• A safety pin
• A tool for turning and stuffing the body such as a chopstick
• A metal straw (optional)
• A sewing machine and basic knowledge of how to use it
• If you are painting the doll’s face you will also need a small round paintbrush and fabric paint (or acrylic paint mixed with textile medium) or acrylic paint markers suitable for using on fabric

Without ears approximately 15" (38.1cm), with stand-up ears 18" (47cm)

Pattern difficulty

Beginner friendly - No experience of making dolls is necessary, but you will need to have basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine and be familiar with hand sewing
