Make more than one style of cat doll with this cute and easy PDF sewing pattern. Experience sewing cloth dolls or making stuffed animal toys is not necessary. This cat sewing pattern is for confident beginners. It includes step-by-step photographs, detailed instructions and lots of tips from my years of doll making experience. I will also invite you to join a friendly and supportive Facebook group where you can watch video demonstrations, ask questions and see cat dolls made by other members. 

A handmade cat doll could be made as a personalised gift for a cat lover, a birthday or Christmas. It could also be made as a cat loss gift, make cute nursery decor or a special baby shower gift

With this sewing pattern, you can design your own cat stuffed animal doll. You can choose to sew or paint the cat’s face using templates for open or closed eyes. There are templates and instructions to include corner spots or sewn stripes on your cat. It includes a tiered dress and a bow for your cat.

The cat doll can wear the same clothes as the dolls in my bunnybearmousedogdeer, lamb, elephant and fox sewing patterns. They can also wear the daisy dress,  Spring outfitpyjamas and fairy outfit

Materials and tools

To make this pattern you will need...

• A quarter of a meter or yard of linen, cotton or a cotton-linen blend for the cat’s body. I like Robert Kaufman Essex Linen
• A third of a yard or metre of light-weight cotton or linen fabric for the dress
• 18” x 4” (46 x 10cm) lining fabric for the dress
• 6 1/4” x 5 1/8” (16 x 13cm) light-medium weight cotton or linen fabric for the bow
• 2 1/2” (6.4cm) of 1/4” (6mm) wide sew-on hook and loop tape or four 1/4” (7mm) sew-on snaps / snap fasteners
• 100% wool felt for the eyes (optional) and for sewing spots or stripes to the doll (optional)
• matching sewing machine thread
• embroidery thread for the face
• 6oz (170g) stuffing depending on the type you choose
• fabric paint or acrylic paint mixed with textile medium (optional)
• turning and stuffing tool such as a chopstick
• hemostats or tweezers (optional)
• erasable fabric pen
• embroidery needle
• doll needle (optional)
• fabric scissors
• paper scissors
• pinking shears (optional)
• seam ripper
• pins
• ruler / measuring tape
• paper scissors
• iron
• sewing machine

Pattern difficulty

Beginner friendly - No experience of making dolls is necessary, but you will need to have basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine and be familiar with hand sewing
